The Mummy!

Throughout the 60s, journeyman Benji Ramirez wrestled in a full suit of bandages and a modified wrestling mask as “The Mummy.”

The costume sat in a neutral ground between the familiar Egyptian-style mummy and the messy maned ‘Aztec’ momia, serviceable to both mainstream and Latino crowds.

I remember the Mummy several times during the late 1960’s at the Boutwell auditorium in Birmingham, Ala. . I was 13 years old and up to that time seeing the mummy was the greatest thing I have ever seen. Today I found out, after all those years, who he was. Thanks

I worked with Ben at the TWA overhaul base in Kansas City. He was a great guy. Him and his wife died in the American Airlines crash into a mountain in South America. His daughter Mercedes was one of only 4 survivors.
